BORGHESE GALLERY

The third largest park, Villa Borghese is for every Roman the green heart of the historical city centre of Rome, recommended for relax, a nice gelato, jogging, or simply for a nice walk far from the big city routine. But the park has much more to offer: Galleria Borghese, a beautiful palace that holds a unique collection of paintings and sculptures started by the Cardinal Scipione Borghese in the 17th century.

The tour includes a walk of the park through artificial lakes, water clocks and replicas of ancient Greek temples, and then a complete visit of the museum Gallery. A walk along Borghese Gallery is like travelling through mythology and the history of art: we will behold baroque sculptures and ancient mosaics, world famous paintings by some of the most known 1500/1600 artists such as Raphael, Caravaggio, Titian, Rubens, Bernini, stucco-decorated ceilings with trompe l’oeil frescos and neo-classical masterpieces by Antonio Canova. Visiting Galleria Borghese means exploring almost 2000 years of art history in a splendid 17th century palace.
